This is a band I’ve been interested in hearing for a while. It seem to be getting a lot of good reception and I heard it was a pretty solid release. The singer of this band was cool enough to send me a promo of this album. I must admit I was expecting more of a traditional metal style but what you get hear is a mix of some thrashy elements and even some power metal. No, not the kind like Rhapsody more just old school style of power metal. But let’s get to the review.
The first track “Daring the sun” is very good it has a bit more of a power metal feel which is pretty cool and the singer has quite a good range. “Hold high the flame” has a kick ass riff. It just one of those hooky riffs when you hear it your immediately hooked into the songs. One thing that to me stands out in this song is just the incredible vocals and the guitar riffs.
“Possessor” is definitely a very thrashy track. It almost like power/thrash because the vocals aren’t thrash but the guitar riffs and drumming are very much thrash. The solo in this song rips! I think this was a cool way to change up the album with this song. "The Sinister Silence" keeps up the pace with a bit more of a heavier side. Kind of a thrash feel to it. "Scaling Lies" the opening riff kinda reminds me of something Mercyful Fate would have done. Shawn’s vocals sounds really good on this song. What I like about all the songs on this album is the songs stick out. It doesn’t get boring. All the songs are very distinct. It also is very groovy at times. Shawn Pelata has an incredible range on the whole album.
This is a very good album and I’ll try to pick up a physical copy of this soon. A very cool mix of styles and this band has definitely been listening to Thundersteel and Painkiller so you know what to expect!
