I was very excited to hear this album. Goin' Under was an amazing album. It's an album that I still spin. So I was very happy to be able to review this album. I have listened to this album a lot of times. This whole album is just great front to back. All killer no filler. This album really just took me on a (black) trip! Now to the review.
The first song is "Die With Me" this song opens up with a quick drum fill from Jonas then Joseph Tholl does a great "Ohhhh yahhh". He pretty much sums up how I feel about this album with his first vocals on this album. The riff is automatically catchy and just hooks you in. When they get to the chorus there is just so much power with the music and the vocals. The vocals during the chorus and melodies literally gave me goosebumps. There is an awesome solo in this song as well.
The second track "Danger" is another songs that really shows off Black Trip's ability to pump out such a good memorable song after the killer first song. The riff will stay in your mind for sure. The title track "Shadowline" starts off a bit more mellow but once the music picks up and the riff and vocals kick in it will take you to the Shadowline. Their is a blistering solo and it's really good. "Berlin Model 32" is another great track. That has a bit more of an 70's edge and I think it rules! Another great cut on this album "Over the worldly walls" has sold great twin guitar riffing. And another one of my favorites off this album.
"Subvisual Sleep" is a song that shows the diversity of the songwriting on this album. Not that it's like something totally out of the ordinary of Black Trip but they have expanded their sound from Goin' Under and you can totally hear it on this song. "The Storm" kinda reminds me a bit of remember tomorrow by Iron Maiden not that it sounds like the song but it starts out mellow but then it has a lot of powerful parts. It's a really good song.
"Coming Home" end the album off on a solid note for sure. Well this album is going in the top 5 albums of the year for sure. I really think the songwriting is top notch. All the instruments sound great. They are all clear but still have a very organic sound. Joseph vocals sound great. Peter and Sebastian also have some killer guitar riffs and solos. Their also some killer bass work by Johan and awesome drumming by Jonas. This is easily going to be in my top 5 albums of the year. Take a Black Trip and head to the shadowline!
