Mad Max is a band from Germany they formed in 1981 but disbanded in 1989. They reformed in 1999 and have been going on since then. I was not familiar with this band at all. So I was quite curious to hear this band. I didn’t listen to any of their back catalog at all before listening to this. I didn’t want to be biased already to what I was going to here. But now to the review.
The first song is Fly Fly Away and man it’s catchy! The riff just hooks you in. It gets you nodding your head right away. The vocal lines in this song especially in the chorus is another thing that totally hooks you in. Losing you has more of a hard rocking song. However, it’s still really good song. Thoughts of a dying man is really good. It’s more of a ballad but not like a slick pop ballad more like just a melodic metal song really good! It has a really good solo in this song as well.
Lonely is the hunter has definitely a melodic tinge to it. The next song Stormchild is one of my favorites. It’s a bit faster than the other songs but the riff just gets you head banging immediately. Also, there is a cool acoustic guitar in the middle of the song that works really well. Heroes Die Lonely has some really good twin guitar work. Really this is another great song on this album. If I’m correct this is a re-recording of past songs. I must say I’m now on the hunt for anything by this band on vinyl. This album has definitely made me a fan. Great stuff from Germany! Also, respect to the band for forging on through out all these years!
